Sunderland cool on Bruce

Sunderland are not following up their initial interest in Steve Bruce, Sky Sports News understands. The Black Cats had approached Premier League rivals Wigan about the availability of Bruce on Tuesday. Wigan then revealed to the media that they had given Sunderland permission to speak to their manager. However, Sunderland had only enquired about the possibility of taking Bruce and Wigan's announcement has seen the North East club back-track. Now it is understood Sunderland have cooled their initial interest in Bruce and are looking at other potential options to replace Ricky Sbragia - who stepped down on the last day of the season. As well as Bruce, Sunderland have been linked with a host of top foreign coaches in recent days.
