Stam: Mistakes are proving costly

Wigan defender Ronnie Stam has blasted his side for throwing away valuable Barclays Premier League points. The Latics looked set to boost their bid to avoid relegation by beating Fulham on Saturday, only for Andrew Johnson to grab an equaliser four minutes from time. Stam told the Wigan Evening Post: "It was another two points gone, and it seems to be the same story almost every week. We're 1-0 up, we're winning the game, and then we make another stupid mistake again." With a tough trip to London to face Arsenal on Saturday, Wigan's chances of making amends look slim, and Dutchman Stam added: "It's always difficult against Arsenal, particularly at the Emirates. "But we'll go there with exactly the same mentality we always have, and we know it will be an open game where we will have chances. "Everybody has to go away this week and think about their own things and see how we can make it right. Hopefully we can come away with the right result at the weekend and get a run going."
