Shoot-out for survival says Martinez

Roberto Martinez has spoken of the final games of the season being like a shoot-out for survival between the bottom five clubs.

With the Latics presently in the bottom three Martinez understands the needs to pick up points starting with Stoke City at the weekend.

“Nobody can predict how many points we’ll need – but it’s going to be an eight-game shoot-out between the teams at the bottom,” Martinez told the Wigan Observer. “The support we had against West Brom and Liverpool was exemplary, which affected the performance on the field.

“And if we can replicate that on Saturday we’ll give ourselves a fabulous chance.

“We’re a small club with young players but we have big dreams, and we showed at Anfield we can achieve anything if we want it badly enough."

A win this weekend in the game with Stoke City would represent only the second home win for the Latics this season. It would also represent the first back-to-back wins of the campaign and would go a long way to pushing the Latics out of the bottom three.
