Alan Shearer has reportedly targeted Paul Scharner to beef up his Newcastle defence for next season. Shearer has put the Toon Army in a great position to beat the drop and wants to stay on at St James' Park beyond the end of the season. But he will demand a raft of changes and it is claimed the England legend has turned to Wigan centre-back Scharner as someone to help patch their leaky backline. The 29-year-old could be ready for a new challenge after three years at the JJB Stadium, according to the Daily Mirror. And the experienced Austria international has a £6million release fee written into his contract.
