Scharner respectful in celebration

Former Latics defender Paul Scharner was respectful in his celebration following his equalising goal against the Latics this weekend.

Scharner, now of West Brom, scored the equalising goal from a corner mid-way through the second half at the DW Stadium.

The Austrian international spent over four years with the Latics and it was a gesutre of respect that he did not celebrate the goal too strongly.

Speaking to the West Bromwich Albion official website, Scharner said: "There is still a piece of my heart in Wigan and that's why I had to be respectful."It was strange, of course, especially in front of the Baggies supporters. When you have nearly 5,000 supporters following you away from home, it gives you a great feeling."But I had to show a little bit of respect for the Wigan fans as well because I played there for so long. I kept as quiet as possible - but I have to look forward now."

Scharner converted from a corner which was well within Al-Habsi's six yard area and perhaps should have been dealt with by the big Omani goalkeeper.
