Report: Gunners keen on McCarthy
Arsenal are understood to have made an enquiry to Wigan about Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy.[LNB] Arsene Wenger is looking at potential midfield reinforcements this summer and the Latics' Irish star is believed to be among them.[LNB]The 20-year-old has been hugely impressive for Wigan since joining from Hamilton in 2009.[LNB]Skysports.com understands that Arsenal made contact with Wigan earlier in the summer, but were told he is not for sale.[LNB]However, Arsenal's interest has remained and they could return with a formal offer before the end of August.[LNB]Liverpool have also been strongly linked with the Republic of Ireland international.
