Pollitt agrees Latics stay

Back-up keeper Mike Pollitt is set for a fifth season with Wigan Athletic after agreeing a new one-year contract. The club's longest-serving player was also their first signing of the Premier League era after joining in July 2005. Although Pollitt has only mustered three league appearances this season, he is more than content to provide the cover for England international Chris Kirkland. The 37-year-old is settled at the JBB is pleased to be at a Premier League club and is loath to move on when his family is settled in the area. "I'm hoping it can all be done before I go away on holiday," he told the Wigan Evening Post. "It wasn't a difficult decision to make, it probably took all of 30 seconds, and more or less it's the same contract I've been on this season. "I wasn't in a position to go in and ask for stupid money. I'm the No.2 keeper, so I had to be sensible. "Of course I would have liked to have played a few more games, any player would think the same, but it's still good to be involved in the squad. "I'm at a Premier League club and the chance of still having the opportunity to play games at this level is worth hanging about for. "I waited a long time to get to the Premier League after being in the lower divisions so I'd be reluctant to leave. "From a family point of view, I don't live far away and the kids are settled at school, so being here suits me."
