Perfect pitch delights Martinez

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has hailed the new playing surface at the DW Stadium as "sensational". The Latics dug up their old pitch after last week's FA Cup loss to Bolton and have laid fresh turf ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League visit of Manchester United. It is the second successive year chairman Dave Whelan's relegation-threatened club have felt compelled to replace a badly churned-up pitch before the end of the season. Martinez said: "It is in very good condition. The work the ground staff have done is sensational. "In a football club like ours everyone plays a little part towards the result and I hope everyone can get the rewards on Saturday evening. "I think it is a great sign and I think it is good news for football. You don't want to go into a game where the players cannot express themselves and cannot play the game they want to play or we want to play."
