Opinion: Sick of being treated unfairly

The FA will have gone way too far if they hit Roberto Martinez with a fine.

I’m sorry, but if the FA decides to fine Roberto for his comments about the Linesman yesterday, they will have gone too far. Like all of you, I felt sick watching the footage back of the decision yesterday. Any person with an ounce of common sense would have known that Branislav Ivanovic was blatantly offside but because its ‘little old Wigan’, people think they can get away with murder.

This season has been very frustrating for all at the club, we’ve struggled for large parts of the season with many horrible decisions gone against us throughout the campaign, (Blackburn’s corner fiasco, Conor Sammons red card at Old Trafford to name two), but we are now playing some of the best football I’ve ever seen a Wigan Athletic side play. We are passing the ball with confidence, creating plenty of opportunities and everyone is united in trying to avoid relegation.

I think everyone associated with Wigan felt confident that we could get a credible result from Stamford Bridge and we were playing very well until ‘that’ incident. We all know that Roberto is not someone who will lambast any officials, even with the two incidents named above; the manager remained fairly calm and went about his business properly. I think that yesterday pushed Bobby over the edge and I do not blame him for telling it how it is. Time after time we are bullied in this league, be it attendance or on-pitch matters, we are bullied. There’s no other way of describing it, and it’s been happening since we was promoted.

If the FA takes action against the manager, Dave Whelan will have to get involved. We’ve been pushed around for too long and I for one am sick of it. There was nothing wrong with Bobby talking to the media yesterday; diabolical decisions should be pulled up. Throughout the season, there have been disagreements between fans but that’s to be expected given where we are and the fact we all share the same passion for the club, but look at us now. Meet and Greet events galvanising support, fantastic home attendances of 19,000+ in the past few home games and form that gives us a chance of survival. We do not deserve this kind of treatment and something needs to be done.

Wednesday sees Manchester United come to Wigan. I know we will all be singing and shouting as loud as we can to back the team so let’s show the world just how great we are. 7 years in the Premier League, We shall not be moved!
