McManaman desperate to play a part

Youngster Callum McManaman hopes he can stay in the thoughts of manager Roberto Martinez as Wigan prepare for what is certain to be a rollercoaster end to the Barclays Premier League season. The Lancashire club prop up the league standings with eight games remaining but are nevertheless just six points off 11th place. McManaman has been a bit-part player for the club this season after making the step-up from the youth ranks, making a handful of league and cup appearances, but the 19-year-old remains confident he can play a role in their battle against the drop. "It's been a great season for me personally and I've enjoyed every minute of it," he told the club`s official website. "It goes to show that if you work hard and perform well in the reserve team then the gaffer will give you your chance. "To have got the chance to prove myself is fantastic, I hope I've proved I can contribute to the team and now I'll keep working hard to earn more opportunities. "We've got a lot of options up front, everyone's fit too so competition is fierce. But I'm dying to get back involved with the first team and if I keep working hard hopefully that chance will come."
