McCarthy shrugs off speculation

James McCarthy has committed his future to Wigan amid reports he is attracting admiring glances from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.[LNB] The talented 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined the Latics from Hamilton Academical last summer, arriving in the Premier League with a glowing reputation.[LNB]Roberto Martinez was wary of asking for too much, too soon from the youngster and has eased McCarthy into the fold at the DW Stadium.[LNB]He is, however, now a firm fixture in Wigan's first-team plans and has impressed with a number of eye-catching displays.[LNB]His rapid progress is rumoured to be interesting Arsenal while Liverpool, who missed out on his signature last year, also remain keen.[LNB]McCarthy, though, is keeping his feet on the ground and insists his sole focus at present is on life with Latics.[LNB]He said: "It's great to be tipped to go places, but I'm not getting carried away. I'm happy at Wigan and I have a four-year contract."[LNB]McCarthy has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months, graduating from SPL star of tomorrow to senior international.[LNB]He made his Wigan debut against Manchester United, and his Republic of Ireland bow against Brazil, and the 19-year-old admits things could not really have gone much better.[LNB]"It's been a brilliant season for me," he added.[LNB]"To be making my debut in the Premier League against United and then my debut for Ireland against Brazil - a dream come true."
