McCarthy hoping for quick fire points

Latics youngster James McCarthy is hoping to follow up the victory over Liverpool with three points against Bolton at the weekend as the Latics aim to pull away from the relegation zone. The former Hamilton midfielder was a key man in the victory over Liverpool as he, Momo Diame and Paul Scharner worked effectively in a strong midfield diamond. McCarthy in particular played a big part in keeping Steven Gerrard quiet. Now the Republic of Ireland international is looking to take three points of the Latics local neighbours, Bolton, and help to push the club clear of the relegation zone. Speaking to the Daily Record, McCarthy said: "It would be some feat to stay up. We want to do that as soon as possible so we can enjoy this even more.  "The gaffer (Roberto Martinez) had us in on Tuesday and told us Bolton on Saturday was an even bigger game for us. Liverpool was a bonus but we are playing better and have belief that we can stay up, which would be the highlight of my career." "I'm really enjoying myself now. It was frustrating at the start, but this is what I've worked for since I was a kid. I've felt my touch get better and also my reading of the game. I've still got miles to go but this has been a great experience for me." CLICK HERE FOR THE MESSAGEBOARD
