McCarthy explains Latics move

James McCarthy has revealed that he chose Wigan over Wolves because of their style of football, while the management team at DW Stadium also made it an attractive proposition. Hamilton accepted bids from both Premier League clubs earlier this month and the 18-year-old midfielder carefully weighed up his options. He admits he was tempted by Wolves but is convinced he made the right decision after speaking with Latics boss Roberto Martinez and his assistant Graeme Jones. McCarthy worked with Jones at Hamilton and is now looking forward to starting his Wigan career, although he accepts that he faces a battle to get into the side. "For a Premier League team to come after you is a dream come true," he told Sky Sports News. "I went down to Wolves and had a look about. It was a great place and they treated me well but because I know Graeme and I think Wigan are a great club, I just wanted to come here. "Speaking to the manager and Graeme Jones, the way they play I think it will suit my style. "I just need to keep my head down, work away and try and get in the squad."
