McCarthy and co set for stay

Newly appointed Latics boss Owen Coyle has been busy in the transfer market bringing in a host of new faces but the former Bolton and Burnley boss has confirmed he expects no more departures from the club.

Aside from the folly of players released at the end of their contracts the main summer departure has been Arouna Kone's transfer to Everton for a fee of £6.5 million.

A sizeable portion of the present squad has been attracting rumoured interest with Callum McManaman, James McCarthy, Ali Al-Habsi and Shaun Maloney all being linked with various moves away from the club.

However Coyle is fully expecting no more departures from the club ahead of the new season.

Speaking to the Wigan Observer this week he said: "We don't want to lose any of the players at the club. The ones I have spoken to have certainly intimated they'd like to play their part next year."

If the group to which Coyle has spoken to includes McCarthy and co then this is possibly the best news of the summer for the Latics as we prepare for a very tough forthcoming season.
