McArthur winning fitness race

Following an injury scare earlier this month, James McArthur is winning his fitness race ahead of the new season.

The Scotland international midfielder injuredh is back during pre-season and looked set ot miss teh start of the season.

However the former Hamilton midfielder has told the Wigan Evening Post today that he expects to be fit for the game with Chelsea this weekend.

Speaking about his summer charity bike ride and the back injury McArthur said: “It helped my fitness and it also helped me mentally.

“Unfortunately I got a bit of a setback when I got back and injured my back in training, but thankfully I’m on the mend now.”

The midfielder who helped to raise over £6,000 from his Carlisle to Glasgow bike ride is also impressed with new signing Fraser Fyvie.

The 19 year old is another player to have been tempted down from the SPL and McArthur added: “It’s great to have another Scot on board, and good for the club in particular to bring in players of his quality.

“You’ve always got to be looking to strengthen your squad in this game, and hopefully there’s time for another one or two more to come in.”
