McArthur handed trial with Latics

Hamilton midfiedler James McArthur has accepted an offer to spend a week on trial at Premier League club Wigan later this month.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez has openly expressed an interest in the Hamilton star.

Now the 22-year-old is hoping to show he is good enough to join former Accies team-mate James McCarthy in the English top flight.

McArthur told the Herald: "I'm going to Wigan in a few weeks' time, it's a chance for me to see what's down there and how good the standard is.

"I've spoken to James and he has told me what the Premiership is like and how everything is run down there.

"He's done excellently and there's no reason why I can't go down and prove myself good enough as well."
