Wigan manager Roberto Martinez admits he faces a tough decision as to whom to appoint as Latics skipper in succession to Mario Melchiot.[LNB] After the departure of Melchiot in the summer, Martinez is weighing up his options. Melchiot, Titus Bramble and Paul Scharner all wore the armband at one point or another last season, and the gaffer admits that it's a tough decision he'll be making over the coming weeks, outlining the qualities needed to take on such a responsibility.[LNB]"We haven't decided upon that yet, it's something we'll be looking into over the next few weeks," Martinez told the club's official site.[LNB]"There are a few strong characters in the dressing room, good leaders which will develop nicely throughout pre-season.[LNB]"It has to be a figure that is respected by the group and who will lead them. It's a kind of natural selection and one of the easiest selections you'll see in the dynamics of a dressing room."[LNB]The gaffer also took the time to reflect upon the contributions of Melchiot and Scharner, experienced players who played a massive role at Latics in their time at the club;[LNB]"Mario Melchiot and Paul Scharner gave tremendous effort to this football club and I'm sure everyone will support them in their next moves.[LNB]"They left fond memories for everyone here and they are a big part of Wigan Athletic's history. On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to wish them the very best of luck for the future."
