Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is yet to make a decision on the future of trialist Modeste M'bami. The Cameroon international has linked up with the Latics after parting company with Marseille this summer. The midfield ace is believed to have taken in similar spells at a number of English clubs as he seeks to find a new employer. At present he is using his time at the DW Stadium to build his fitness, but Martinez admits he will be keeping an eye on M'bami's progress. "At the moment, he is still training with us," the Spaniard told Sky Sports News. "He has missed a lot of football in pre-season and he is still getting his sharpness. Once he gets that we will be able to make a good assessment and see how Modeste feels about the whole situation. "At the moment he is just enjoying the training and showing good standards." Martinez has also given his opinion on the poaching debate which continues to rage across Europe. Rules He believes Uefa needs to act in order to prevent top clubs from cherry-picking the best youngsters the continent has to offer, admitting that the rules regarding the signing of promising talent need to be revised. "I think it has been happening in the past many times, but until now it has never been a high-profile case where you can really set the rules," he said. "I think the ruling is a bit wide open, there is not much protection between countries, but slowly we are seeing the protection. "It is expanding and it is something which unfortunately you have to get through at times like this. "At the moment clubs are doing things which they are allowed to do. You can never stop clubs having scouts all over the world and with the value of the players these days they will go for younger players. "This is the ruling that Uefa should stop. It takes a high-profile situation to change the ruling. I believe it will now be done. He added: "I think it is important if you step over the line, and don't do things by the rules, then you get punished. "Each individual case is different, though, and it is about making things clear. At the moment the rules are difficult to read. But after these cases I believe Uefa will make it clearer."
