Martinez vows to attack

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez insists his side will not play for a draw as they take on Arsenal in the Emirates on Saturday. After four straight defeats, the Latics got their season back on track with a creditable 1-0 win over West Ham last weekend, their second win of the season. Martinez's side have produced indifferent form since he took over at the DW Stadium in the summer as his brand of slick football has proved a difficult transition from former boss Steve Bruce's reign. The Spaniard is determined not to get carried away by the Hammers performance and insists his team have a lot to learn, which they will not do if they approach this weekend's opponents Arsenal in a negative way. "We are not there yet. There are many things we need to do better and we are conscious of that," said the Latics boss. "When you get a win against a side like West Ham it gives you great confidence but we are still in a transition process. "We just hope over the next three or four weeks we will fulfil our potential. "But if you go into a match against the top four looking for damage limitation with bodies behind the ball you don't learn anything. "The hope is, slowly, one day we will be able to challenge these sides. "We will go there and play the way we have to play and if we can do that for 90 minutes I will be pleased. I'm sure we can get many good things out of it. "The worst thing you can do is go in there with a negative approach. It is only a matter of time before you get punished. "We are not going to go anywhere looking for damage limitation. If we have to lose, we lose but we will learn from it and make sure we use in the next game to get points elsewhere. "Arsenal have huge quality. We will have to be focused off the ball because if there is a lapse in concentration they will punish us," he added. "Throughout the squad, from Cesc Fabregas to Andrei Arshavin, if he's fit, to Robin van Persie - they have world-class players but it is very dangerous to single out one individual. "No-one expects us to get anything out of these games but what is quite clear is that Wigan will go into any game trying to win. "We will face Arsenal with a positive attitude and determination to win the game."
