Martinez to have final look

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez hopes his players will use Saturday's friendly at home to St Mirren as the final opportunity to press their claims to start on the opening day of the league season. The Latics begin at Aston Villa in 11 days' time and despite winning only one of their six pre-season friendlies the manager is satisfied with how his squad have performed. However, he has urged the players not to waste their last warm-up match. "It is the first time we will give the new players the first opportunity to play at the DW Stadium and that is important," he said. "It is a week before the league game and we need to be close to the intensity we need to get to."
