Martinez: There's much more to come

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez felt his side did well to deal with the problems posed by 10-man Sunderland following Lee Cattermole's sending-off in the 1-1 draw at the DW Stadium. Cattermole, the former Latics midfielder who was captaining the visitors, was shown red by referee Andre Marriner midway through the first half after being booked twice in quick succession for fouls on Mohamed Diame and Hugo Rodallega. Sunderland went on to take a 66th-minute lead through Asamoah Gyan's debut strike before Antolin Alcaraz's late equaliser and Martinez was delighted with the way his team handled the situation. "The sending-off really made things difficult for ourselves," Martinez said. "All of a sudden Sunderland don't have to think, they know exactly what they have to do - get behind the ball and play that role and they did that extremely well. "We were the ones who had to find solutions, create chances and take risks to take control of the game. "We did that exceptionally well in the second half without reaching the level that we can reach in possession."
