Martinez targets Gomez

New Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is lining up a move to make former Swansea ace Jordi Gomez his first signing at the JJB Stadium. Martinez, who was finally unveiled as Steve Bruce's successor earlier this week, is already looking at prospective new signings and Gomez is among his top targets. Latics supremo Dave Whelan admitted the club were in talks with two potential targets and Gomez is believed to be one of them. Gomez is back at Espanyol after a successful loan spell at Swansea last season after being signed by Martinez. Swansea were keen on making Gomez's stay permanent, but they have been priced out of a move for the midfield schemer. Espanyol have yet to decide whether or not they will keep Gomez, but Wigan are ready to tempt them into selling the 24-year-old with a lucrative offer.
