Martinez targets additions

Roberto Martinez has revealed this week that he is hoping to bring in new faces to his Wigan Athletic squad during the January transfer window.

The Latics are presently stuck at the wrong end of the table and has plenty of problems for the manager to address.

The team has been conceeding far too many goals and has been struggling to find the net themselves.

There has also been a lack of impact from the players who were signed in August which has added further strain to the present first team squad.

With money tight at the DW Stadium any additions are likely to be in the loan market with both Ezekiel Fryers and Mame Diouf of Manchester United being linked with the club.

Just this week Patrick van Aanholt was sent back ot Chelsea after an unsuccessful loan spell was brought to a premature end by mutual consent.

“Patrick has gone back to Chelsea, and now we need to finalise a couple of options that we are currently looking into,” Martinez told the Evening Post.

“Left-back is obviously one of the positions we will be looking at, although it is by no means the only one.

“It means we have now got our full quota of two domestic loans available to us again, but we need to wait to ensure we get exactly the right players that we need to improve the squad.”
