Martinez still keen on McDonald

Roberto Martinez has revealed that he may renew his interest in Celtic's Scott McDonald in the January transfer window. The Wigan manager made an audacious bid for the striker last month when he tried to bring the 26-year-old in on a season-long loan. However his efforts were knocked back by the Hoops, but the Spaniard admitted that he would continue to monitor the situation. The Australia international has begun the season well under new Celtic boss Tony Mowbray, scoring two goals in three SPL games and giving the impression that Martinez may struggle to prise him away from Parkhead. "There were many players we showed interest in and Scott McDonald was one of them," the former Swansea boss said. Thin on numbers "I wanted to add to the squad with a couple of signings as we are a bit thin on numbers. "We have our targets and we will carry on following and assessing them because if you are going to do that then I think it is vitally important that assessment continues. "When you bring a player in you have to be certain that he brings you exactly what you want in terms of his personality, character and what he has to offer. "I will continue to work hard to identify the right players to improve our squad."
