Martinez set for summer clear out

Hot on the heels of Dave Whelan's announcement regarding his transfer budget for the summer, Roberto Martinez has been preparing a list of players he would like to cull from the Wigan Athletic squad. He inherited a large number of useless players, many of whom are on big wages and clogging up the payroll at the DW Stadium. Consequently, Roberto Martinez is hoping to be able to move a number on this summer and bring in more of his own players. Jason Koumas, Daniel de Ridder and Olivier Kapo are the main suspects and are amongst the highest earners at the club. The departure of these three aligned with that of Paul Scharner will free up the best part of £150k a week on the Wigan Athletic payroll. Mario Melchiot meanwhile is hoping for a new contract, but it is likely that any new deal  would be on reduced terms from those that the former Chelsea player joined the club under. Mike Pollitt has also been offered a new deal. Martinez is a big fan of the veteran goalkeeper and feels his experience will prove invaluable to the squad. CLICK HERE FOR THE MESSAGEBOARD
