Martinez rallies rested Latics

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is looking for an energised performance from his team against Fulham this weekend to make up for the flat display they put in at Craven Cottage earlier in the season. Martinez suggested his players had struggled to cope with the demands of their fixture schedule when a Latics side showing just four changes from a midweek Carling Cup tie against Swansea were beaten 2-0 by Mark Hughes' team in October. Going into Saturday's game at the DW Stadium, though, Wigan will have had a full week without a match for the first time since Boxing Day. Several regular starters were rested for last weekend's 3-2 FA Cup victory at Hull as well and Martinez hopes to see the benefits when the team take on Fulham. "The performance against Fulham away was one of the biggest disappointments we have had this season," Martinez said. "We didn't perform at our level, we were quite flat and probably the cup competition took too much out of our energy tank. "We need to look at the game on Saturday as a great opportunity to be ourselves and try to put that performance right with the second encounter."
