Roberto Martinez has this week spoken of the pride he feels managing this young Latics squad. The Latics boss is positive that the present group of players have more than enough to avoid relegation, particularly with the way they have been playing in recent weeks. The squad is currently one of the youngest Wigan squads on record. A fact that offers much hope for the long term future of the club. Speaking to the official website ahead of this weekend's trip to Chelsea, Martinez said: "The younger players in the squad bring some refreshing to the squad."Everyone is playing with confidence at the moment but for these players they know no fear, they're brave and excited about the challenges we have ahead of us."They're desperate to play and that reflects in the competition within the squad, and something that needs to be maintained for every game."Last weekend each player who came off the bench had an impact on the game which is important."Not only do they need to adapt quickly to the game but they need to have an impact too, and it shows we're no longer a team with just eleven or twelve bodies, we have strong numbers which will be vital for the remainder of the season." Speaking about the game itself, Martinez is excited by the prospect of a tough game but he believes the Latics have enough to come away with a good result. "We're excited and see the game as a great opportunity to get points and finally climb out of the position we're in," he added: "I've been very proud of our performances recently and proud of the manner in which the players are taking responsibility."Over the last seven games the players have really clicked, partnerships are flourishing on the pitch and we're ready now to get the rewards our hard work deserves."This is the last fixture of the season against one of the top-four sides which is something the teams around us still have to be tested against, and if we can replicate the levels of performance seen lately we'll achieve our aim."Every team in the Premier League still has a lot to play for, we go to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea aiming to hold onto a Champions League qualification spot, and that will be the case in each of our remaining fixtures."
