Wigan boss Roberto Martinez now wants to build a team capable of challenging for Europe after surviving in the Premier League.[LNB] Latics' top-flight status was secured for another season after Burnley were beaten by Liverpool.[LNB]It has been a difficult first season in charge at the DW Stadium for Martinez, who had to rebuild a squad after the high-profile departures of Emile Heskey, Wilson Palacios and Antonio Valencia in 2009.[LNB]"Now we need to build for the future and make sure that as a club we are never in this position again," the Spaniard said.[LNB]"I want Wigan Athletic to be challenging for Europe on a regular basis, not looking over our shoulder every season and seeing survival as the only target for the season.[LNB]"We have got a very exciting young squad of players, the club is in a financial position where we don't have to sell anyone and we now have a tremendous opportunity to evolve and move to the next level."[LNB]
