The Latics have remained down in London following the weekend defeat to West Ham. Roberto Martinez is hoping for victory against Arsenal in the Carling Cup tonight. Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post about the previous Semi-final between the two sides, the Latics boss said: “That was a magnificent moment in this history of this football club, and it will be there for ever. “It was a great game at Highbury, when Wigan Athletic managed to unlock the door to a major final for the first time. That will bring great memories for fans in the lead-up to the game, and it certainly gives the team who run out something to try to replicate on the night.” The Spaniard also added that his side are hoping to bounce back from the West Ham defeat at the weekend.  “We have a real feeling of disappointment now, and the next game cannot come quickly enough in these situations,” he added. “We’re desperate for the opportunity to correct the things that went wrong at West Ham, and get back to the level of performance we know we’re capable of. “The priority must be to stay in the Premier League, but we must also look to develop the squad – and games like this give us the ideal chance to do that. There are many players in the squad who have been desperate to play, and this is a unique opportunity for them. “We want those players to come in and stake a claim, and there are places up for grabs at the minute.” CLICK HERE FOR THE MESSAGEBOARD
