Martinez: Fans are still with me

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is adamant he has not lost the faith of the DW Stadium supporters.[LNB] The Latics supporters turned on Martinez and his side on Wednesday, booing them off the pitch at the interval and again at the final whistle after a goalless draw with relegated Portsmouth.[LNB]It was a point in front of just 14,166 - the lowest attendance in the Premier League this season - that has left Wigan still anxiously looking over their shoulders.[LNB]With the club five points above the relegation zone with four games to play, Martinez knows he now needs more than ever everyone on his side pulling in the same direction.[LNB]Ahead of Sunday's visit of Arsenal, Martinez is hoping to leave the boo-boys smiling again as Wigan chase their first league win over Arsenal after a run of eight defeats and a draw.[LNB]"It's not the reaction you want, but you can understand it," said Martinez reflecting on the unwelcome jeers after the Pompey game.[LNB]"We're at a very important moment of the season and points now are crucial.[LNB]"But it's not a worry, and I don't think they are losing faith at all.[LNB]"It was heat of the moment, the emotion we were all left with after the final whistle. We all felt the same way.[LNB]"Portsmouth came with a way to play, they slowed the game down and got away with it, and we created enough chances to win many games, so in the end it was frustrating.[LNB]"Sometimes you get certain emotions that affect you at the final whistle, but overall we know we'll be ready to perform against a very good side on Sunday.[LNB]"We know we're going to react in the right manner. We will all be together, as we always are in these situations, pushing in the same direction.[LNB]"Playing at home, we need to put in a performance where the fans can be proud of us."
