Martinez eyes Gunners scalp

Roberto Martinez insists his Wigan side will be going all-out to beat Arsenal when they travel to Emirates Stadium on Saturday. The Latics, who have won two of their five Prmeier League starts so far this term, have lost on their last six visits to North London. Despite that statistic, Martinez insists his players will not employ any defensive tactics against a Gunners side looking to bounce back from successive domestic defeats to to Manchester City and United. And the Spaniard feels his side are strong enough and confident enough to overhaul their opponents. "We are not going to go into any game thinking about damage limitation, because you have no chance of getting any points and you don't learn anything like that," he told the Wigan Evening Post. "We will be brave and open-minded, and use every game we play to grow as a team." Wigan make the journey to Emirates Stadium fresh off the back of a 1-0 win over West Ham last Saturday. That victory has proved to be a timely confidence boost following a run of four defeats, including a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester United. "The 5-0 defeat against Manchester United probably looked damaging from the outside, but the first 50 minutes in that game helped us win on Saturday against West Ham," added Martinez. "It's the way you develop, the way you learn, the way you grow as a team - and we are going to carry on doing that against Arsenal. "We know we are in a transitional time, we know we are learning certain aspects in terms of growing together, and to be able to see the game through like we did against West Ham was pleasing." Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez added: "We have to focus on going to Arsenal and putting in another good performance. "They have a great team and it's a fantastic stadium, we are all looking forward to going there and doing our best."
