Martinez: Emile should have seen red

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez claimed his players felt Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey should have been red carded for his reaction towards referee Mike Jones during the 1-1 draw. Heskey was incensed at being denied a free-kick after being on the receiving end of a challenge from Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz. He made contact with the Cheshire official but escaped with a yellow card. Martinez said: "I didn't see the incident but the players are adamant his reaction was out of order and it should have been a red card. I know Emile really well. He is a true pro, a fantastic player, and he showed the passion that he brings with football. "Unfortunately in those moments, if you don't keep your cool, you can get a red card. At the moment decisions don't seem to be happening for us. It would have been a key moment in the game." Martinez added: "I am happy with the performance. We are in a position where we are fighting for our lives. It was a good point against Everton and I'm pleased with the test we came through."
