Martinez demands improvement

Roberto Martinez admitted that Wigan had made life too easy for Arsenal following the 4-0 reverse at Emirates Stadium. The Latics have made a slow start to the season and Martinez has stressed that it is a 'transitional' period for the team following his appointment as manager over the summer. However, he still expected a better performance from his men against a Gunners outfit that did not have to work too hard for their victory. "In football you are looking for performances and standards and today we couldn't be ourselves, which is a big disappointment," Martinez told Sky Sports. "It is obviously a tough place to visit but from our point of view we made it too easy for Arsenal. "There were key moments when we let ourselves down and overall it is disappointing we couldn't reach our levels. "It is a transitional period for us but we can do better." Martinez insists he will keep striving to turn Wigan into a side that is capable of defeating one of the best teams in the country. "It is 34 games that we have never beaten a top-four team and that is a long-term ambition for us," he explained.
