Martinez conclusion close

Swansea manager Roberto Martinez could finally complete his protracted move to Wigan in the coming days. Martinez was expected to be named as the Latics' new boss last week but the deal was delayed after the Premier League club failed to offer any compensation for Swans assistant manager Graeme Jones and chief scout Kevin Reeves. Both men are expected to follow the Spaniard out of the Liberty Stadium but Wigan chairman Dave Whelan admitted he was unwilling to pay for their services after shelling out a reported £2million for Martinez. However, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins is optimistic that a deal with Whelan can be agreed and the whole saga can be finally put to bed. "I have been speaking to Wigan over the weekend trying to resolve some issues and I'm hopeful we'll be able to bring a bit of sense to it all on Monday," he told the Swansea Evening Post. "We just want to sort this mess out. We are looking for compensation for two members of our staff and I'm hopeful that we'll get what we want. "I'll be speaking to Wigan again on Monday and hope to put an end to this whole saga because it is time to move on."
