Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is convinced his side's fighting spirit will help them survive in the Barclays Premier League after earning a hard-fought 2-1 win at Bolton.
James McArthur's second goal in three games gave the Latics a priceless victory over their relegation rivals after Gary Caldwell's opener had been cancelled out by Mark Davies.
"We need as many players like James from now until the end of the season. There are many things we can control but you need the belief, arrogance and bravery in your make-up," Martinez said. "It's easy to play when you're in the top six but in our position you need an extra bit of mettle. We know what it takes and we will fight with our lives to carry on in this league."
Martinez hailed his side's "complete performance" and said he believed the club had now turned a corner following last week's gutsy draw against Everton.
Martinez added: "The three points were important but more important was how we got them. We looked like the home team and a real threat every time we went forward. Even when Mark Davies got his incredible goal it didn't affect us too much. We just stepped it up and found a way to go and get the winner.
"We know that from now until the end of the season we've got 13 cup finals and it's about ourselves. Today is an example of what we have to do from now until the end of the season."
Bolton boss Owen Coyle described his side's first-half performance as "not good enough" and admitted the Trotters' habit of throwing away potential points is becoming worrying.
Coyle said: "It's a game we wanted to win to move us up the league and we've let the opportunity pass us by. In our position you can't let chances slip away when there are achievable points.
"Our first-half performance was not good enough but after the second-half performance I have no doubt we should have taken a minimum of a point. Wigan dominated possession in the first half but to concede a goal two minutes from half-time was galling, especially when Gary Caldwell was allowed a free header.
"But when we got the goal we were in the ascendency and we had a couple of great chances. Those are the kinds of margins in this league."
