Martinez backs Moses to shine

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez believes Victor Moses can fill the void left by the impending departure of Charles N'Zogbia.

Having agreed a £9.5million fee with Aston Villa for the winger the transfer is expected to go through in the next couple of days and Martinez is already looking to the future. Moses, signed from Crystal Palace for £2.5million midway through the 2009/10 season, scored twice in Wednesday night's 2-0 victory over Al Ahli in Austria.

And Martinez believes the 20-year-old midfielder has grown in stature after making 26 appearances last season. "He's a special talent," the Latics boss told the Wigan Evening Post. "It's a real shock to any player to move up to the Premier League, but since he's been here he's added maturity and experience to his undoubted ability."

He added: "Charlie has left a big hole in our team but that vacancy is a big opportunity for Victor and maybe a couple of other players to step up.

"Victor is a different kind of player to Charlie but has the same quality that sets players like that apart from the rest."
