Martinez: Al Habsi still best

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez insists he would not swap Ali Al Habsi for any other goalkeeper despite his mistake at the weekend.

Latics' usually reliable shot-stopper suffered an uncharacteristic moment of madness during a Premier League encounter with Reading on Saturday, as he fumbled a high ball into his own net. He was let off the hook as Wigan ran out 3-2 winners at the DW Stadium, with a hat-trick from Jordi Gomez allowing him to laugh off his comical gaffe. Martinez is confident the Oman international will not allow the incident to weigh on his mind and says he would not trade his number one for anybody. He said:

"I'm quite happy for him to make a mistake. For every mistake, there are 20 good saves. I'll take that ratio any time.

"Ali didn't have to say anything after the game. If anything, we had to thank him for the save he had made previously to keep us in the game.

"I wouldn't take any other keeper to replace Ali, that's how much we rate him. He's the perfect keeper for us. He fits in with the way we play.

"He's got another step to make and, once he gets there, he's a keeper who can compete to win a title or Champions League."
