Wigan Athletic manager Malky Mackay attempting to sign Korean international Kim Bo-Kyung, a player he has been accused of racially abusing at Cardiff City just twelve months ago, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Mackay was sacked in December 2013 by Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan after a series of racist, sexist, anti-semitic and homophobic text messages and emails were discovered on his phone.

These messages included comments about Kim Bo-Kyung and his agents with Mackay claiming there wasn't enough dos in Cardiff to go around.

Former Cardiff City sporting director Ian Moody was also implicated in the scandal and resigned from his position when it was revealed by Sportsmail in April.

To make matters worse, Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan made comments about ‘Chingalings’ and ‘kinky’s’ when defending Mackay after his appointment as Wigan manager which prompted the FA t ban Whelan from football for six weeks and fine him £50,000.

Criticism really came down on Mackay after the League Manager’s association released a statement labelling the comments as ‘friendly banter’.

Last week it was reported that both Moody and Mackay are likely to avoid charge after the FA have a policy of not being able to act on communications sent privately between two individuals.

Kim was released from Cardiff City last month and is now a free agent after making 58 appearances for the Bluebirds. He has made 30 appearances for South Korea and was even handed the no.7 shirt following the retirement of Korean Legend Park Ji-Sung.
