Latics trial for M'bami

Modeste M'bami has been given the opportunity to try and earn a contract with Wigan. The Cameroon midfielder has been looking for a new club since the expiry of his Marseille deal earlier in the summer. He has been linked with a possible switch to Turkey, while there have also been reports of interest from England and Spain. Latics manager Roberto Martinez now looks set to sign the 26-year-old after inviting him to the DW Stadium for a trial. Martinez is fully aware of M'bami's qualities but insists he will still have to prove he is worthy of a deal. "Modeste has a great pedigree and a great curriculum with top teams around the continent," said Martinez. "He can control the tempo of the game with his ability and experience. "He has a sharp brain, can see a pass quickly and can operate in a few positions around the midfield area. "We'll be assessing him over the next week and see what happens."
