Latics to allow Scharner exit

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has sanctioned Paul Scharner's desire to leave the JJB Stadium. Scharner has voiced his interest in securing an exit from the Latics as he seeks the "next step" in his career. The Austria international, who joined Wigan from SK Brann in 2006, is said to be attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe. Whelan told The Sun: "Scharner may go. He is an unusual character to say the least. "He even said if Steve Bruce tries to take him to Sunderland he wouldn't go because it was a backwards step. "But if he comes to me and asks to go, I'll say 'Yes' - even though we don't want him to go."
