Al Habsi has suffered a dip in form recently and is it believed that Latics boss Roberto Martinez is hopnig to bring in Joel to provide competition for the goalkeeper's spot.
With Ryo Myaichi and Angelo Henriquez utilising the two Premier League loan spots the move for Joel is permitted as his parent club is abroad.
The young Spanish goalkeeper is highly rated and has been tipped to take over the number 1 shirt vacated by new Manchester United 'keeper David de Gea, once a target of the Latics.
