Following on from his goalscoring start to the season Arouna Kone is being tipped for an important role for the Latics this season by manager Roberto Martinez.

The Ivorian striker who joined the club in a £2.7 million deal from Sevilla over the summer has managed goals against Southampton and Fulham already this season.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez expects their is more to come from the bright haired striker. He said: "Arouna is a top goalscorer."

"If anything, we need to develop an understanding of his play and the players around him to get the best out of his ability. He's a powerful player."

"He's ready. He's experienced. He's played in Holland, Germany and Spain already.

"It was a real surprise when he missed the one on one with Schwarzer because he's very clinical in those positions. But you can count on Arouna because he's always in the right place and never runs away from the places that as a striker you need to be in to have chances."

Kone is likely to be rested for this evening's clash with West Ham United in the Capital One Cup but is likely to return for the weekend's fixture with Sunderland.
