Wigan midfielder Olivier Kapo looks set to miss the start of the Premier League season after straining knee ligaments on Monday. Latics boss Roberto Martinez has revealed his relief that the Frenchman wasn't out for longer after club doctors feared he had suffered a rupture. The 28-year-old sustained the injury in the 1-1 friendly draw with German side Hannover 96 and was immediately sent for scans. Martinez now has to make do without the former Juventus man for the opening weeks of the season but the Spaniard remains upbeat. "It's actually better news than we first feared," he told the Wigan Evening Post. "We thought he had suffered a rupture but thankfully it's only a strain of the lateral knee ligament. "Hopefully it's not a long-term injury - it could have been much worse."
