It was a worthy work-out - Martinez

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez looked to the positives after seeing his side go down 1-0 to Crewe in a pre-season friendly at Gresty Road. Joel Grant's 34th-minute goal was enough for the League Two side, slotting the ball home at the second attempt after goalkeeper Chris Kirkland had saved his initial shot. But Martinez told the club`s official website: "It was good to get them into a game situation and have them play 45 minutes each which gives us and them the ideal platform to build on. "I was happy to see all 22 players have some kind of role to play in the game and the fact we`ve come away without any injuries is pleasing and lets us know that everything has been going to plan so far. "The work-rate everyone put in was excellent and the young players who came showed they`re not scared to get involved with the senior players they`ve been looking up to."
