Fyvie has joined the club for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be in the region of £500,000 and aged just nineteen years old is certainly a player for the future.
The former Aberdeen midfielder follows a path well walked from the SPL to the DW Stadium with captain Gary Caldwell, striker Conor Sammon, and midfield duo James McCarthy and James McArthur having made the journey in the recent past.
Following on from his first training session with the club, Fyvie spoke of his move: "I followed the team towards the end of last season, keeping an eye on the Scottish lads here and watching them do so well in keeping the club in the Premier League."Knowing there were players here from Scotland obviously played a big part in making the decision to join, I think there's five of us at the Club now, and hopefully I can follow in their footsteps, become an important member of the team and continue improving as a player."It's not just the Scottish lads though who have made me feel welcome, the whole squad have helped me settle in and my first training session with the group went really well."This is a new chapter for me and a great opportunity, I'm desperate to get started and hopefully prove to people I'm good enough for the Premier League."
Whilst manager Roberto Martinez was understandably delighted to confirm the signing of Fyvie, the first new addition of the summer for the Latics.
He added: "I'm excited because we're signing such a strong character and a great personality at just 19 years of age."He's got a tremendous future in his hands and we're all delighted that he's making a big step forward in his career here at Wigan Athletic."He's a bright young man and will have a good environment here in which to develop with players that have been through similar experiences and of course our fans who I know will make him feel very welcome and allow him to develop over the coming months."
Fyvie is expected to be involved with the first team from the start of the season, although as with McArthur, game time opportunities may be limited as he is eased into the rigours of the Premier League.
