Wigan midfielder Fraser Fyvie hopes to be given the chance to stake a first-team claim in the Capital One Cup tie against Nottingham Forest.
Latics beat Southampton to record their first Premier League win of the season at the weekend, and Roberto Martinez hinted he may give players who have not featured in the first two games of the season a chance to make an impact.
Fyvie, 20, prepared for Tuesday night's game by watching Forest's 2-2 draw against Bolton so he knows what to expect if he receives the nod.
The Scottish midfielder told the club's official website: "There's real quality throughout the club so whoever plays against Forest will be really ready and up for the challenge.
"It would be great for me and a few of the other young lads to get the chance to prove ourselves on Tuesday because we are all really raring to go.
"Last week I got a game for the Under-21s which was great because it keeps you on your toes.
"I linked up really well with other lads from the first team squad like Callum McManaman, Daniel Redmond, Jordan Mustoe and Roman Golobart which was great because they've got a lot of quality."
Fyvie expects npower Championship side Forest to match Wigan's style and knows they will not be a pushover at the City Ground.
"I watched them against Bolton on Friday night and they were very good," he said.
"They're very strong going forward and played a similar game to what we play really, they kept the ball well and passed it around well too.
"There are players that can make things happen too like Lewis McGugan who scored an amazing goal against Bolton.
"We have to concentrate on our own game though and show what we can do because we've all got that belief in ourselves and we have to go there and get a result."
Wigan boss Martinez is keen to test out some new combinations and with the cup game providing the perfect opportunity to give game time to other members of the squad.
The Spaniard said: "It's a great opportunity to share the demands.
"You've got a few players that have been working really well in pre-season and they've no reward yet and I think it's important that everyone is ready.
"It's an opportunity for some other players to show what they can do and show that they can have a massive say this season."
