Sunderland ran out 4-0 winners against Darlington in Steve Bruce's first game in charge of the Black Cats.[LNB] A Matt Plummer own goal, Kieran Richardson, Paul McShane and Roy O'Donovan sealed the Premier League club's success.[LNB]Crewe were 1-0 victors in their match versus Roberto Martinez's Wigan Athletic, with Joel Grant scoring the decisive goal.[LNB]Blackburn Rovers came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Serie A giants Roma, only to lose 3-2 on penalties in Italy.[LNB]Rodrigo Taddei and former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise opened the scoring but Rovers forced an ultimately unsuccessful shoot-out via goals from Paul Gallagher and teenager Aaron Doran.[LNB]Scunthorpe United recorded an incredible 12-0 win against Brigg Town as Gary Hooper struck a hat-trick in the first period.[LNB]Ben May then netted five second-half goals while Grant McCann, Michael O'Connor, Matthew Sparrow and Kevan Hurst all got in on the act.[LNB]Alfreton Town triumphed 1-0 over Macclesfield after Paul Clayton grabbed the only goal of the game for the Conference North side.[LNB]St Mirren defeated Dumbarton 3-0 as Stephen O'Donnell, Craig Dargo and Billy Mehmet all bagged for the SPL team.[LNB]Oldham lost 2-1 in their clash against Northern League Division One North side Halifax Town, while Hereford were in outstanding form as they smashed Wellington 8-0.[LNB]
