Ferguson hoping for Wigan cup success

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping for a Wigan Athletic FA Cup Final win for owner Dave Whelan.

Ferguson is a big supporter of Whelan, how he operates, and what he has achieved in the game and the United manager's kind words are very welcome ahead of a tough season run in for the Latics.

He said: "I hope Wigan win the cup and not because it would be at the expense of Manchester City.

"In Dave Whelan they have an owner who has not only shown great faith in his manager but someone who invests so much emotionally in his club.

"People like Dave Whelan deserve the kind of reward that a Wembley win would provide."

Given United's superiority over City in the League I'm sure Whelan would be equally grateful if the Latics could borrow five-or-so of United's points total too.
