Latics boss Roberto Martinez is full of praise for striker Franco Di Santo as the former Chelsea striker is tipped to one day become an Argentinian international.

The 22 year old frontman has had a tough time in front of goal during his time in English football, but his three goals so far this season have seen Di Santo playing with a new found confidence.

There are a number of voices in world football highlighting the potential of the young Argentinian.

Amongst those is Latics boss Roberto Martinez who told the Wigan Observer: "He can play for Argentina, of course. That is not just me saying that, iti s (former Argentina and Chile coach) Marcelo Bieisa and other former Argentina internationals saying it.

"I see him as the perfect striker for any side, but we are making the same mistake talking about potential.

"It is true that to make a big achievement, you have to start with a bigger dream. For now though, he should forget long-term ambitions and focus on Saturday, focus on this season.

"And if he does that, he has the mental strength to fulfil his enormous potential."

Di Santo's role for the Latics has been stepped up a notch recently with the injury news surrounding Hugo Rodallega.

Martinez was speaking to the Wigan Observer which is published every Tuesday and is priced at 75p.
