Di Santo set for results day

Today is likely to be results day for Franco Di Santo as he learns the extent of the ankle injury that has been giving him trouble for the past few weeks. The 21 year old striker has been having trouble with his ankle for the past few weeks since joining from Chelsea and he has been for scans in London this week to hopefully get to the bottom of the problem. Speaking to the Wigan Evening Post, Latics boss Roberto Martinez said: "We sent Franco to see the specialist and are now waiting for the full diagnosis. “He picked up the problem at Newcastle and has been struggling with it ever since. We’ve been managing it carefully to make sure he has remained available, but the West Ham game last week was the final straw. “It was just impossible for him to continue, impossible for him to even kick a ball. We need to get to the root of the problem as quickly as possible and correct it.” “He’s already had a couple of scans and an MRI, but at the moment nothing’s proved conclusive. It’s in a very deep part of his ankle, quite high up, which is making it difficult to tell what’s wrong. “There’s nothing we can do until we get the specialists report back, because it could be two or three different things. “We’ll find out for certain in the next day or so, and then at least we’ll be able to treat it. But I’m quite positive and remaining optimistic about the whole thing. “The ankle settled down a lot over the weekend, and I’m sure if it had have been a major problem then it wouldn’t have done that.” Given the fact that the injury has settled down over the past few days, a positive outcome from the doctor could see Di Santo in line for a return to the side for the trip to Goodison Park this weekend.
